CARE & MAINTENANCE
Overall Information
-
Please visit your stylist every four weeks (or as recommended by your stylist) to have your Evolve Volumizer re-tightened or reset. This process will keep your Volumizer in optimal condition and wearability.
-
Brush your hair thoroughly a minimum of two times per day with the brush provided. Begin at the base and move outward. This is important so that the hair doesn’t slip back through the holes. Every time you brush in this way, you are essentially re-tightening your Volumizer.
-
To brush properly, hold the left side of the Volumizer in place while brushing the right side, then reverse the process. Always hold the base in place at the opposite side while you are brushing. Never brush or dry your hair upside down.
-
DO NOT use hair regrowth treatments like Rogaine while wearing a Volumizer.
Chemical Treatments
-
We do not recommend treating the hair with any chemicals, such as perm lotions, hair dyes, or straighteners.
-
Chemical treatments make the Evolve warranty null and void. Virgin hair can still be colored because it hasn’t been treated with chemicals. However, all warranties will be null and void.
Washing & Conditioning
-
Shampoo your hair at least two times per week. We suggest that you use a low-sulfate, mild shampoo and conditioner that is recommended by your stylist.
-
Never wash, brush, or dry the hair upside down.
-
Before washing, brush out all tangles with the Evolve Bristle Brush. Do not use a brush with only plastic or steel pins. Always start brushing or combing at the ends, working your way up to the roots.
-
Wet the hair thoroughly, then dispense a small amount of shampoo into your hand and rub your hands together. Apply the shampoo evenly at the roots. Gently wash the scalp using your fingertips without rubbing the hair. Rinse thoroughly while squeezing the hair to remove all shampoo residue. If the shampoo does not foam the first time, then don’t apply more shampoo, but continue washing as normal. After rinsing, simply re-apply the shampoo for a second time.
After Washing Your Hair
-
After washing you may use a conditioner. However, apply conditioner only from the ends of your hair to halfway up the Volumizer. Never apply conditioner to the roots.
-
Comb the conditioner through using a large wide tooth comb until all tangles are removed. Rinse thoroughly to remove all residue in the hair. Towel dry the hair by squeezing it with the towel without rubbing. You can apply small amounts of (non-oily) leave-in conditioner or your favorite styling product repeating the same steps used for conditioning your hair. Scrunch upwards to activate the curls.
-
For a natural result, allow your hair to dry completely without touching, combing, or brushing it. Alternatively, you can use your favorite styling equipment.
Nighttime Instructions
-
Braid the hair in a large, loose braid at the nape of the neck before going to sleep. DO NOT sleep with wet hair, as this will cause tangles and will make it difficult to style the next morning. If you wake up in the morning and some of the curls are separated too much or flattened, then just wet the hair with your hands and scrunch the curls back into shape. Again, let them dry completely before finishing the style.
Daily Styling
-
To smooth your hair, you can use a hairdryer along with a brush and any recommended styling products, such as a smoothing spray. Apply the product at the ends and middle section of the hair. Do not apply directly to the roots.
-
If using a round brush, the size of the section you are working with should not be larger than the diameter of the brush.
-
If your dryer has both hot and cold buttons, use the hot button to dry and the cold button to lock the curl in place. When your hair is perfectly dry and the round brush moves through your hair with ease, use the cold button for about 30 seconds.
-
Styling tools you can use include curling irons, heated rollers, steam rollers, and curling tongs.
Daily Styling for Natural Curly
Follow Daily Styling directions, plus:
-
Instead of brushing your hair right away, start by dampening your hair with a spray water bottle and a little bit of daily smoothing spray.
-
Use your fingers to comb through your hair; this way the curls will stay nice and compact. If your hair has tangles, brush your hair from the ends up to the roots until all tangles are removed.
-
Use a hairdryer with a diffuser to activate your curls and shorten the drying time.
Daily Styling for Natural Body Wave
Follow Daily Styling directions, plus:
-
After dampening your hair with a spray of water, push your hair upwards for optimal texture.
-
Use a hairdryer with a diffuser for maximum wave effect and to shorten the drying time.
-
When drying naturally, push your hair upwards to activate the waves again. Do not play with your hair while it is drying.
-
While hair is still damp, use a daily smoothing spray followed by a finishing spray.
-
When completely dry, run your hands through your hair to separate the waves.
LIFESTYLE TIPS
Outdoor Activities
-
Don’t expose your hair to strong, windy conditions like sailing, motor sports, or cabriolet cars. Wear protective head wear. If you sweat a lot during work outs, then make sure to rinse out the saltiness after exercising, as this can dry out the hair.
Sauna/Sun Bathing
-
Braid the hair in a loose braid at the nape of the neck and put it up using a hair clip. The hair can get very hot and can be painful when it touches the skin, just like natural hair.
-
Do not undo the braid until the hair cools down.
-
After the sauna, rinse the hair under the shower. We recommend washing and conditioning the hair at the end of your visit or when you get home as stated in this leaflet.
Tanning Machines
-
While lying in a tanning bed, cover the hair loosely with a towel. Don’t apply sun-tan oil or sunblock to the hair.
Swimming
-
It is not recommended that you submerge your head in the water when swimming while wearing curly, deep curly, or deep curl textured Evolve Volumizers. If you swim on a regular basis, other textures are more suitable.
-
NEVER wear a swimming cap, as the lapping action of the water can get beneath the cap and cause matting.
-
Before swimming, comb out any tangles.
-
If applicable, make one braid at the nape of your neck.
-
Try to keep your hair out of the water as much as possible.
-
If you are a swimmer, you may choose to put conditioner on the ends of your dry hair before getting in the water for added protection.
-
NO DIVING WHATSOEVER.
-
After swimming in chlorinated or sea water, rinse immediately. Condition the ends of your hair, and start brushing or combing at the ends, working your way up to the roots.
-
Squeeze dry with paper towel.
-
Leave to dry naturally.
-
Wash and condition hair as soon as possible as recommended.
